The hike to Paria Beach will definitely get your heart pumping and adrenaline racing but compared to other hiking trails in Trinidad and Tobago, this one can be done by the average person . That being said, it’s definitely one of the more popular and most enjoyable hiking trails in the Caribbean. Approximately 4 – 5 miles long, the hike takes you along the beautiful North Coast and usually takes about 2 1/2 – 3 1/2 hours to complete.
Starting at the famous swinging bridge in Blanchisseuse, the hike passes along many secluded beaches as well as through a couple small streams and rivers. At certain spots you can venture off unto rocky cliffs overlooking the sea. Anyone for rock fishing?
Because the beaches are accessible only by boat , it makes for perfect nesting for Leather back Turtles. Who knows maybe you might catch a glimpse of some hatchings, a true delight to observe. For most of the hike you”ll have the opportunity to see some of Trinidad’s natural vegetation, so keep an eye out for lots of local fruits and wild animals.
After a moderate hike through the bush, up and down muddy hills, across small streams and along some of the most fantastic sight seeing spots, the hiking trail takes you to beautiful Paria Beach, a half mile stretch of sand. From here you have a choice of enjoying the beach or continuing for another 15 minutes to Paria Waterfalls. In the rainy season there are several pools deep enough for swimming and the waterfall makes for a fantastic picture taking!
All in all, Paria Beach Hike and Waterfall is a definite must when visiting Sweet TnT!
