Trinidad and Tobago: Rainbow Cup International Triathlon

Ring any bells? It should!

The Rainbow Cup is an International Triathlon held annually in Tobago W.I. in the Caribbean.

Trinidad and Tobago has seen a big increase in popularity and support for Triathlon events over the past couple years. One of the most anticipated – the annual Rainbow Cup International Triathlon. Sponsored by the Neal & Massy Group, the 2013 edition of the race will see competitors from many Caribbean islands, as well as the United States and the United Kingdom.

Both local, regional and international triathletes will take part in the main event – the olympic triathlon. Drum roll . . . . . .

“a 1,500m ‘doggy –  paddle‘ along Turtle Beach, Tobago prepares you for a 40km ‘Sunday morning ride’ on Plymouth Road and to top off the ‘fun’ – a 10km ‘stroll in the park‘ takes you to the end of your journey. Of course, you’ll have to battle with the scorching sun, constant uphills and possibly a flock of Cocricos. How’s that sound? Easy right? Ha!”

If you’re not quite up for all that, there is a sprint triathlon( 750m, 20km, 5km)  as well as many other events such as a 2000m open water swim, 5k run, tag team triathlon, and kids triathlon.

This year, the Rainbow Cup Intentional Triathlon takes place on June 22nd & 23rd. Many Tobago Hotels and Bed & Breakfasts Inns will have special offers during the week leading up to the race.

If you’re thinking of hopping over to Trinidad after your Tobago trip, be sure to look out for our Rainbow Cup Triathlon Specials.
