Known to many Trinis as the place to go for an ultimate exercise work out, the Lady Chancellor Hill provides an awesome view of the Queen’s Park Savannah, St. Anns area, Caroni Swamp and on a clear day as far as Southern Trinidad!
What’s great about the location? It’s so close to everything yet so far from the hustle and bustle. As some would put it, “A nice break from the city life!” A mere 10 – 15 minutes from the downtown area, this winding road offers much shade and many opportunities to experience some of Trinidad’s beautiful flora and fauna, without having to go on an ‘actual hiking trip’. The walk, or jog for some, is a gradual ascent to a height of about 600 feet above sea level at which there is a small ‘look out’ area.
There are many great spots for bird watching as well as viewing the beautiful Poui Trees and Wild Poinsettias, the national flower of Trinidad and Tobago. If you’re up for the challenge, many fitness/athletic clubs and groups host a variety of events on this hill. There are Hashing events and fitness Climb Challenges, all attempting to become the next ‘King or Queen of the Hill!
